Presented by FOR-SITE in partnership with San Francisco Heritage, And the Beat Goes On marks the 60th anniversary of San Francisco’s Summer of Love with a major site-specific exhibition of contemporary art, exploring the counterculture’s enduring ideas about creativity and collective responsibility.

The exhibition unfolds throughout the historic Doolan-Larson House at the intersection of Haight and Ashbury Streets, a landmark in the heart of the neighborhood where artists, musicians, activists, and young people gathered in 1967 to challenge social norms and imagine new ways of coexisting.

Rather than revisiting the Summer of Love through nostalgia, And the Beat Goes On considers its relevance to the present. At a moment of political polarization, environmental uncertainty, and technological change, the exhibition asks what we might learn from a movement that placed human connection and shared experience at the center of civic life.
